This is a residence of contrasts: the straight against the curve; the solid against the void; the vertical against the horizontal; the half flight of brick steps against the half flight of open-riser wood and steel treads; and the enclosed spaces against the glass denial of wall. The concept is described by the architect as a “shoebox in collision with a parasol.” This game of opposites makes this a truly inspired design.
